Beginning in 1993, Seeds of Peace has brought together Arab and Israeli teenagers to a summer camp designed to foster understanding among these teenagers. Many young Arabs and Israelis have grown up seeing the violence and hatred associated with the Arab-Israeli conflict. Seeds of Peace challenges these teenagers to understand each other’s perspective and to look beyond the traditional preconceptions of what it is to be a Palestinian or an Israeli. Trained counselors encourage the teenagers to share their thoughts, play alongside one another, and to appreciate one another. The camp shapes the way these teenagers think about the conflict and opens them up to new ideas. Oftentimes, friendships are formed between young Palestinians and Israelis. The goal of the camp is to create new understandings and new bonds between these two groups that have historically seen themselves as enemies.
