Jay is dedicated to the idea that tolerance—understanding and caring about others—should be an organizing principle of political systems at home and abroad. There are five core tenets to a progressive brand of tolerance centered around understanding other individuals. These core tenets are: empathy, compassion, sacrifice, humility, and forgiveness. Jay supports charities that advance these tenets.
Jay believes that political discourse should be based on empathetic reasoning, compassionate concern, and a humility about our own facts and perspectives. Political actors should understand and appreciate the inherent value of all human beings, even those with divergent viewpoints.
Jay periodically writes about organizations that promote tolerance and empathy to highlight the significance of their work. Jay’s goal is to promote tolerance as an indispensable component of our political process, and in doing this, bring about meaningful political change.
